I've always been a bit scared of horses. They are BIG. If I got kicked, it would hurt. So during my stay at Miraval, I participated in an abbreviated equine experience, a three-hour session with psychologist Wyatt Webb.
One of the messages of the session was that by communicating clearly - and honestly - you can move forward safely, together. I learned how to approach the horse, so he knew I was friendly. And I learned how to communicate with the horse using body language, so he would follow my directions.
The equine experience has valuable lessons for Healthy Survivors, one of which is this: Fear of something that looks BIG and scary can keep you from finding ways to find happiness.
As you can see from the photos, learning how to approach the horse made it safe. By making it safe, I overcame my fear. And by overcoming my fear, I could enjoy the pleasure of stroking the horse's smooth coat and experience the power of leading the horse on a walk.
As a Healthy Survivor, when you are facing something that feels big and scary, get help from someone who knows how to face a fear like yours. With guidance and support, you can quiet your fear so you can enjoy potential pleasures.

Way to go Wendy!
