One of the defining traits of illness and injury is the need to adjust to unwanted change and loss.
I'd like to spend at least a few blog posts exploring what it means for Healthy Survivors and those who love them to face the pain of unwanted change and loss.
What do Healthy Survivors owe their loved ones? What do loved ones owe the Healthy Survivor? This 5-minute video will serve as our starting point.
(Warning to readers who are wearing mascara: This video clip may cause smearing of your makeup.)

My favorite part of the video was the turtle in the background, just crawling along, oblivious to the whole showdown. There's something kind of simple and uncomplicated about him, just like loss and change itself. Our feelings about loss and change can be unbolting, searing, and horrific, but loss and change itself are in my mind the most basic truths about life, and really quite simple.

Dear Kairol,
I would never have noticed that turtle without your pointing it out to me. Your comment is eloquent. Thank you for adding one more dimension to what I see as a brilliant film clip.
With hope, Wendy
