On my Feb 18th post I told you about a new book by Jane Brody, subtitled "A Practical Primer to Help You and Your Loved Ones Prepare Medically, Legally, and Emotionally for the End of Life. My copy finally arrived in the mail. Upon opening it and quickly thumbing through the pages, I got a surprise:
A dozen or so comics scattered throughout the book! Who woulda thunk you'd put comics in a guide to preparing for end-of-life? But each comic is perfect in tone and timing, letting readers know that this book is about living well and maintaining your humanity -- and your sense of humor -- until the inevitable end.
An expanded table of contents makes it easy to pick-and-choose what you read, if you don't feel like reading it cover-to-cover.
Chapter 1 introduces the problem of how our death-defying culture leads many people to avoid obtaining the knowledge needed to ensure that the end of their life" is as peaceful and comfortable and, yes, as celebratory as it can be." Knowledge is needed now, whether your end-of-life is six weeks away or sixty years,
Hmm..obtain knowledge. Sounds familiar, eh? Whether we are talking about preventing illness, treating illness or preparing for the end-of-life, obtaining knowledge is the first step to Healthy Survivorship.

I picked up her book at the library; agree that with humor and the advice to "obtain knowledge", she guides us through what may be a difficult phase of life.
