Today I want to talk about the latest adventure of Kathy LaTour, editor of CURE magazine and one of my earliest survivorship mentors. This woman of words not only talks eloquently and passionately about the problem of underserved women with breast cancer, she also takes action.
In 1992, she responded to inequities in breast cancer care in Dallas by working to found and lead The Bridge Breast Network. She's been instrumental in developing CURE magazine into the superb publication survivors know it to be. (If you are a survivor, you can order a free subscription)
Her most recent effort to transform words into action is her motorcycle ride with Amazon Heart, an international organization with a mission: "...to transform the lives of women living with breast cancer through adventure events that in themselves create a wider social impact in their local communities." (from the Amazon Heart website)

"Bridging" seems to be an underlying theme of all Kathy's work. In her blog post, Kathy highlights one of the ideas vital to Healthy Survivorship: "...the U.S. is a melting pot and everything...[we] learn about overcoming barriers in other countries can help us with those cultures here. ...we have to remember that the cure for cancer may come from anywhere in the world."
Kathy, thank you for braving the elements in your efforts to help others.
