Nile Rogers knows how to use words to communicate feelings. Who among us doesn't instinctively begin to dance with joy when listening -- and singing -- to "We are Family" at a family celebration?
Recently Rogers began using his literary gift to share his personal story about how "[I]n an instant, everything in my happy-music universe imploded."
You can read his coming-out post about his cancer on his blog. I'm sharing the link partly because of the human interest story behind a popular song he co-wrote.
I'm also sharing the post to once again highlight the potential healing power of walking: "[W]alks were a major preparation for the upcoming operation and lengthy therapy that would follow. When walking, the only music I listen to is the music I sing to myself - or what happens naturally around me."
And lastly, Rogers' blog offers a fascinating view of survivorship through the eyes of a musician who experiences life through song. He believes in the Healthy Survivor's notion of "living as fully as possilbe" and makes it clear that you have to put effort in the pursuit of joy.

This is so true. Today I celebrate the first anniversary of my hip fracture. Walking has always been a way to exercise even during treatment, so the slow recovery back to walking was worth every step. Thank you for the link.
There is nothing like walking to music.
