This is my annual October 18th post, set to go live right after midnight, so I can begin celebrating on time, even while I'm sleeping.
When I wake up on October 18, 2011, I'll be 57 years old.
Too old to die young.
Proud of -- and grateful for -- my age.
Who knows? Maybe the best is yet to come.
Although I don't believe in superstitions, I feel a special "something" on the 18th of October. I wrote about superstitions and Healthy Survivorship in a column entitled "Opal." To read, Click Here

Dear Wendy,
Happy, Happy Birthday.
We are all blessed by your continued good health and each and every birthday.

Hi Wendy,
I lost my Mom to lymphoma in 1984, at the very young age of 59. Too soon. I read your lovely linked story and noted the title -- Opal. Her mother's name was Opal, although I never knew her as my grandmother as she died in her 20's -- another story. Anyway, I wanted to thank you for all you bring to the world and healing. You are a bright light. I hope to book you again soon. Oh, and guess what? I'm in CT and had dinner with Marcia Anderson on Sunday. We remembered you fondly.

Congratulations and best wishes, Wendy, on reaching the birthday, and the way you've used the years to accomplish so many good things, including providing so much information and good counsel to so many different members of the community of cancer professionals, persons with active cancer, survivors, and their families and friends.
