Do you know what I hate more than soliciting donations? I hate underfunded trials slowing progress in finding more effective and less toxic treatments.
I'm grieving the loss of mentors and friends. I'm dealing every day with the aftereffects of the treatments that saved my life. So for the 12th year in a row, I'll do something outside my comfort zone: I'll ask people to make a donation to Lymphoma Research Foundation in support of Wendy's Eagles to help support cancer research.
I dream of a day when a cancer diagnosis no longer elicits fear for it no longer poses a threat.
I dream of a day when cancer treatment no longer dominates the life of patients and no longer forces patients to create a "new normal" after cancer.
Those dreams can come true if people help support trials and thus speed up scientists' pursuit of the truth about what causes cancer and the best ways to prevent and treat it.
As long as there is research, there are no incurable types of cancer; there are types of cancer for which researchers are working toward a cure.
