Maybe it is because I'm a writer, but a story that appeared in the NYTimes sports section is now laminated and in my personal file of most inspiring stories. I urge you to carve out two minutes to read it:
Inspiration For a Swimmer and a Writer is the true story of an eighth grader who, as part of her school project, interviewed Olympic gold-medalist Mike Bruner before the Olympic trials. Her written record of his own words about what matters made its way back to him just in the nick of time.
A few insights for Healthy Survivors:
- You can create your own treasure trove of inspiration by recording your thoughts and feelings on "up" days to read on "down" days.
- Sometimes you can draw inspiration from people who are young and inexperienced.
- Attitude doesn't control the outcome, but it can affect the outcome positively.
I'm stopping here, with hope you'll use the time you normally devote to reading my blog post to reading Karen Crouse's article, Inspiration For a Swimmer and a Writer .
Wendy, Thank you for sharing - wonderful - my daughters will see this soon. And as a swimmer (non-Olympic) for the last 45 years, I'd offer the further comment that Mr. Bruner and you both have it right.
